Oliva Launching Limited-Edition Serie V Melanio At PCA

Oliva Cigars is continuing its annual tradition of releasing limited-edition versions of its Oliva Serie V Melanio, this time creating a shape known as Figuriño. The cigars are perfectos, tapered at both ends, measuring 5 1/2 inches long by 54 ring at their plumpest points, the middle of the cigar.

The Oliva Serie V Melanio Edición Año 2023 shape was created by Oliva owner Frederik Vandermarliere, of Vandermarliere Family of Cigars. Unlike traditional Melanios, it’s in the round, rather than box pressed. Like other Melanios, the cigars are made from a blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos with Ecuadoran wrappers.

Production of the Figuriño is limited to 14,500 boxes, each containing 10 cigars. The cigars will retail for $20 each. The inner lid of the box shows Oliva’s Hacienda de Ernesto, a tobacco field and operation in Jalapa, Nicaragua. Each box has a QR code that will link to a story behind the release. The cigars are adorned with additional bands of red denoting the year 2023.

“When the Oliva and Vandermarliere families united to become one big family of cigars, it was because of a shared passion for an incredible heritage and out of an ambition for its future,” says Vandermarliere. “With the Figuriño limited edition, we prove once again that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand, if they respect the heart of the craft: purity and purpose. We are convinced that this Limitada will bring moments of deep and intense enjoyment to the biggest fans of one of the best cigars out there.”

Oliva has been making limited editions such as this one since 2017. The new cigar will make its debut at the PCA trade show in July; it will also be sold internationally at the InterTabac show in Dortmund in September.

The Oliva Serie V Melanio is Oliva’s most acclaimed cigar, and was named Cigar Aficionado magazine’s 2014 Cigar of the Year.
